Serving on ASEEES's Board of Directors  is both an honor and a responsibility. The board is the primary and central governing body of the association; it sets the direction for the association's activities and determines priorities, and has both administrative and fiduciary responsibility for the association.
The Nominating Committee will review all nominations.

ASEEES is sponsoring grants annually, at a maximum of $6,000 each, for the purposes of conducting doctoral dissertation research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia in any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline.  

Please read carefully the grant eligibility on the program website before starting the application process.

Only current ASEEES student members are eligible to apply. If you are currently not a member, you can become a member first and then apply.

Application Requirements:

• Completed online application form (below)
• Research proposal (max. 1000 words) 
• Curriculum vitae (max 2 pages)
• confirmation that applicant has not previously held a major dissertation research fellowship (prior to disbursement of funds, ASEEES will contact the home department to verify candidate’s standing and funding levels);
• confirmation that applicant has not previously held the ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant;
• Graduate transcript (unofficial transcript allowed)
• Two (2) letters of professional reference

Research Proposal:
 Your research proposal is the most critical part of the application. Please limit the statement to 1,000 words, excluding footnotes and the bibliography. Longer proposals will not be considered.

 Please follow this outline when preparing your proposal, being certain to use the section headings provided and explicitly addressing all of the requested information.

a) Research Objective: Describe in detail your research question(s) and objective(s).

b) Research Plan: Explain your research plan, including the timeline and locations where you intend to undertake your research. Please include:  
 

• Information regarding the institution(s) where you would like to conduct your research and why your research would benefit from conducting research at that institution;
• Specific materials, sources, libraries, archives (including the archive name/number, if known), and consultations with local colleagues upon which you will draw for your research;
• Description of any problems you foresee in carrying out the proposed research and any alternate plans you have conceived should your original proposal prove to be unfeasible; and
• Any relevant correspondence you have had with the scholars or institutions with which you would like to work (please attach any letters of affiliation to the end of the research proposal).

c) Research Methodology: Describe in detail your intended research methodology. How does your research engage with methods and approaches within your discipline and/or Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies?

d) Budget: Provide a budget for how the grant funds will be used.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and members, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is sponsoring grants up to $6,000 for the purposes of summer dissertation writing on any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline. • a proposal: a two-page, single-spaced, 1000-word (excluding footnotes, bibliography) description of the dissertation’s scope, analytical framework, and methodology, and a timeline of the writing to be completed during the grant period;
• a CV no longer than two pages;
• graduate transcript(s) (unofficial copy allowed);
• confirmation that applicant has not previously held a major dissertation research fellowship or ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant (prior to disbursement of funds, ASEEES will contact the home department to verify candidate’s standing and funding levels);
• confirmation that dissertation does not include a significant in-region research component;
• two letters of professional reference  (one must be from the main dissertation/thesis adviser)

Provide a timeline of the writing to be completed during the grant period. How do approaches, concepts, and debates in your discipline inform your writing and research? What interventions are you making in your field?

b) Writing Plan: Explain your writing plan, including the timeline for completion of specific sections or chapters, and how they fit into the larger dissertation project. Include:

• A description of the research and writing you have already completed in preparation for the proposed work;
• A description of any problems you foresee in carrying out the proposed writing plan and any alternate plans you have conceived should your original proposal prove to be unfeasible.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Completed online application form, including:
• Internship description, including career objectives, previous work, travel and educational experiences that have prepared you for the kind of internship you are proposing, relationship of internship to Russian studies, and professional work experience (beyond academia) that you will obtain from this internship (max. 750 words)
• Letter from the host organization confirming internship offer (.PDF, suggested length <1 page)
• Academic cv (preferred) or professional resume
• Graduate transcripts OR proof of matriculation in graduate program (for incoming students only)
• One (1) letter of reference from individuals (such as an advisor or employer) who can speak to your preparedness for the proposed internship and your background in Russian studies.
