ASEEES offers grants of up to $250 to assist members who have childcare costs during the annual convention (in-person only). The grants are intended to help offset the cost of childcare, enabling attendees with dependent children to participate in the annual convention.

The application deadline is September 1. Notifications will be sent out by no later than October 1.

GRANT ELIGIBILITY AND TERMS

All regular or student ASEEES members who are listed as in-person participants in the convention program are eligible to apply for the grant. In the event that the number of requests for grants exceeds the funding available, priority will be given to applicants who are graduate students, early career scholars, and contingent faculty.

Grant recipients must be regular or student ASEEES members, listed in the convention program as in-person participants, and must register for the annual convention.

• Only one parent of a child or children may apply for a grant.
• Allowable expenses include babysitters (in the convention city or in the member’s home location) and airfare/hotel/travel costs for a caregiver to accompany the child to the annual convention location.
• Not eligible for reimbursement are meals, onsite transportation, and tickets to museums and other attractions, as well as childcare expenses (nanny, babysitter, after-school care) not related to attendance at the convention.
• Childcare grant cannot be used to fund travel or other expenses related to the attendee’s participation in the convention (including registration or other expenses the attendee would already be incurring by attending the convention).
• Funds cannot be used for travel expenses for the child or children.

After the annual convention, each recipient will complete and submit a reimbursement form (distributed with the grant notification email) to the ASEEES office via e-mail. The form will require a description of how the funds were spent, but no receipts will be requested.

Eligible expenses can be reimbursed up to the maximum amount of the grant. Additional expenses must be borne by the individual recipient. No funds can be distributed prior to the conclusion of the annual convention, and no funds are distributed on site at the convention.  ASEEES reserves the right to deny reimbursement to applicants who misrepresent their funding needs.

The Stephen F. Cohen–Robert C. Tucker Dissertation Completion Fellowship for Russian Historical Studies will provide a maximum stipend of $28,000 for doctoral students at US, regardless of citizenship, to complete their dissertation in Russian historical studies. The program is open to students in any discipline whose dissertation topics are within 19th-early 21st century Russian historical studies.

• Dissertation Proposal (no more than five pages including images, double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 11- or 12-point font) 
• Bibliography (no more than two pages) 
• Dissertation Table of Contents 
• A dissertation chapter that is neither the introduction, conclusion, nor literature review. Chapter should be no more than 25 double-spaced pages,  including images, in Times New Roman 11- or 12-point font, or a representative excerpt from a longer chapter.
• One-page timeline outlining schedule for completing and successfully defending the dissertation  during the Fellowship tenure. You must explain when you will write and revise each chapter.
• Curriculum vitae 
• Two letters of recommendation, including one from the applicant’s dissertation advisor that includes confirmation of applicant's ABD status, the viability of the proposed timeline for completion, and end of doctoral funding in years subsequent to the fellowship year. One letter must be from a scholar who is both a member of the applicant’s supervisory committee and a member of ASEEES.

Please follow this outline when preparing your proposal, being certain to use the section headings provided and explicitly addressing all of the requested information.

a) Research Objective: Describe in detail your research question(s) and objective(s). How do approaches, concepts, and debates in your discipline and/or Russian historical studies inform your research?       

b) Preparatory Work Completed: Describe the preparatory work you have completed such as research conducted, contacts made, etc. The selection committee expects you to have completed all preparatory work that can be done in the US before you begin your proposed research abroad.      

c) Research Plan: Explain your research plan, including the timeline and locations where you intend to undertake your research. Please include:  

• Information regarding the institution(s) where you would like to conduct your research and why your research would benefit from conducting research at that institution;
• Specific materials, sources, libraries, archives (including the archive name/number, if known), and consultations with local colleagues upon which you will draw for your research;
• Description of any problems you foresee in carrying out the proposed research and any alternate plans you have conceived should your original proposal prove to be unfeasible; and
• Any relevant correspondence you have had with the scholars or institutions with which you would like to work (please attach any letters of affiliation to the end of the research proposal).

 d) Research Methodology: Describe in detail your intended research methodology. How does your research engage with methods and approaches within your discipline and/or Russian historical studies?       

e) Impact of Research: Provide a brief description of the significance of the proposed research for the field of Russian historical studies. 

The ASEEES Next Generation Dissertation Research Fellowship Program provides a maximum stipend of $28,000 for doctoral students at US universities, regardless of citizenship, to conduct dissertation research in Slavic, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies. The program is open to students in any discipline whose dissertation topics are within Slavic, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies.
